Spring Work Parties
May 1 to 10, 2009: Together, We Build!
Our Spring Work Parties will be held between May 1 and May 10. Over this 10-day period we plan to build everything we need to run camp this summer, including camper cabins, washhouses and outhouses, temporary kitchen facilities, blazing trails, and much more! We hope you'll plan to attend!
It's a Missions Trip. But Closer to Home!
True, it's only an hour from Ottawa. But did you ever consider camp as a missions field? We minister to hundreds of children and youth every summer, and empower young adults to do the same at camp and at their home churches. By supporting camp you'll be making an impact for Christ, right here in our local community!
Who Can Come?
Anyone can come if they are interested in helping out with a work project! High school students can earn community service volunteer hours for attending. Although we have specific needs for skilled trades and people familiar with carpentry, plumbing, etc., we have things to do for every age and skill level!
We encourage you to bring your friends, youth groups, church fellowship group, or co-workers! One way you can truly make this experience your own is to have your team sponsor a specific project. For example, your team might choose to sponsor the construction of one camper cabin. You can help us by doing fundraising at your church or workplace, and then take ownership of putting it all together!
How can my team sponsor a work project?
- Choose a project you'd like to sponsor with your friends (see the flyer for a sample list).
- Let us know of your intent so that someone else doesn't take the same project!
- Raise the necessary funds within your church or community. Use this sponsor sheet so we can send charitable donations receipts to your sponsors.
- Send us your completed sponsor sheet along with the funds you've collected.
- We will purchase the materials needed and have them delivered to the campsite.
- We will provide you with project plans and instructions at the Volunteer Information Night on April 20.
- Come to the work party and put your project together! We can provide additional volunteers and guidance where needed.
What We'll Be Doing
We'll start each day with devotions and prayer, then head to work at our various job sites. We'll gather together for meals, and in the evenings we'll enjoy fellowship, games, campfires, and songfests! We'll have a small worship service on Sunday mornings. It will be a lot like a week at summer camp!
Here's a sample of the kind of work we'll be doing:

When You Can Come
The campsite will be open from 9:00am Friday May 1st until 4:00pm Sunday May 10th. Come whenever you can -- for example just for a weekend or two, or just a Saturday, or a few days during the week. Please let us know when you plan to come and go so we can cook the right amount of food and schedule the teams and tasks.
If you are sponsoring a project and your team would like to come up on a different set of dates, we can accomodate you. Just let us know when you'd like to come up!
What To Bring
Please plan as if for a camping trip -- bring warm, comfortable work clothes, bug spray, your sleeping bag, flashlight, and toiletries. We have a wash facility with toilets and showers. Refreshments, bottled water, and meals will be provided. If you are staying overnight, there's plenty of space to pitch a tent, and we have service sites for your trailer or RV (first come, first served). As cabins get completed, you are welcome to be the first to try them out!
While we will be able to provide some basic tools, please plan to bring tools that you're comfortable working with and appropriate for the projects you'd like to work on, including rakes, shovels, chainsaws, power tools, or air compressors.
Registration and More Information
Excited? Ready to help? Please plan to attend our upcoming Volunteer Information Night on Monday, April 20th at 7:00pm, at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church (Woodroffe Ave. south of the 417). We'll be on hand to provide more details, show you construction plans, and answer questions. Please contact Kathy Logan at (613) 825-8230 if you have questions or to register your attendance.
Other Spring and Fall Work Dates
Many camp volunteers will be doing work up at the site over many other weekends in the spring and fall. If you would like to help out during this time, please contact Kathy Logan at (613) 825-8230. We'll also post about volunteer opportunities on our Construction Blog.
